Acute otitis media (AOM) is a common infections diagnosed among children leading to outpatient clinic visits. Based on a patient’s age and severity of signs and symptoms, antibiotics may be prescribed by a healthcare provider. This session will review common pathogens that cause AOM, when antibiotics should be prescribed or initiation of therapy should be delayed, recommended antibiotics for treatment of AOM and monitoring parameters. In addition, this session describes non-pharmacological and pharmacological methods to prevent AOM in pediatric patients.
